Download NPTEL lectures/videos: Easy and Direct Method

I would like to thank the readers of the “Download NPTEL videos” article which I posted sometime earlier. At that time, there was no direct option to download these videos and I presented an alternative way of downloading these lectures or videos using a YouTube download manager.
Well, the NPTEL management seem to have heard the views of nptel followers and provided direct links for download.
Here is how to download a NPTEL lecture from the same website!
1. Visit the official NPTEL website.
http://nptel.iitm.ac.in/
2. Select your appropriate branch or discipline.

3. Once you select the discipline or branch, you will shows the courses list. In that you can see the type of course. If it’s a video click on “Course contents”.

4. Once you click on course details, you’ll be presented with a page containing 3 tabs. Video, Watch on YouTube, Download. The 2nd tab, can be used to view the course lecture or video on YouTube directly on the computer itself.

But if you want to download the NPTEL lecture/video, select the DOWNLOAD tab. Here, the course is organized into lectures. So you can download each lecture. Select the lecture of your choice and download it. The download format is either MP4 or 3gp. While the former is a big download, the later is a lit bit small. You have 2 different mirrors for each format, which makes it easy to download and avoids web congestion.
If you’ve a download manager like Internet Download Manager (IDM) or any other YouTube downloader like “Xillisoft Download YouTube” you can even download the lecture or video in FLV format also.

Thanks!

  1. I use Allavsoft to download online video courses from udemy, lynda, etc. Simply copy and paste the youtube video url to Allavsoft and click Download button. If the download feature does not work, it also helps the Record option.
